Another big thing that was part of the culture of the 1990’s was dance and exercise. One big trend of exercise that happened in the 1990’s was the invention of exercise called the rumba. In the 80’s jazzercise was a very big thing, and through that came the dancing/exercise trend called Rumba. (Washington Post n.d. p.1). The Rumba became extremely popular in the 1990’s and was considered an miracle worker when it came to getting in shape. According to the Washington Post “he called his creation “Rumba” — derived from a Spanish word for party — which later became “Zumba,” a.k.a. one of the biggest fitness trends in modern memory, with classes taught at more than 200,000 locations around the world.” (n.d., p.1). The culture of this form of dancing/exercise that the 90’s founded and made popular, helped to later develop other forms of fitness that is still used today.

Dancing in the 1990’s helped shape many of the dances that are used today. In the 1990’s line dancing very popular, and dance that was done as a group was encouraged by society of the time. People mostly danced to hip hop music and constantly had a blast while doing so. According to Beck, “1990s -- the era of hip hop and line dancing which influenced dance culture tremendously to this day. The 1990s had dances from the tootsie roll, the running man, to the macarena that still are popular in dances that kids do today” (2016, p.1) One of the most popular dances of the time was the running man. The running man was a popular dance that people still sometimes do today. This shows a little bit more of what the culture was like, the dances they used were mostly just laid back and trying to be goofy.
