There were many big inventions/products that helped shape the culture of the 1990’s. Some big things that were invented was text messaging, a Nokia, and Sony play station. The biggest of the three being text messaging. Text messaging is something that has greatly affected the world. People use texting everyday and do not even think about it. The first text message that was ever sent was in 1992. Neil Papworth was the first one to send a text and he sent it to Richard Jarvis. Papworth sent “Merry Christmas” as the first successful text message. According to Mashable “Nokia was the first handset manufacturer whose total GSM phone line in 1993 supported user-sending of SMS text messages. In 1997, it became the first manufacturer to produce a mobile phone with a full keyboard: the Nokia 9000i Communicator.” (n.d. p1). Texting messaging greatly affected the way communication was made. In the late 1990’s the phone shaped culture in a way no one had seen before by providing a fast and effective way to communicate with others.
